I didn't live in LA. I described the Oceanside neighborhood I lived in for 10 years. Gang members were my neighbors. MY experience wasn't second-hand, as yours is. Have you ever even met one gang member? Nope haven't met a gang member, but i have been in "projects" where kids of welfare mothers were being brought up. Have you been in "projects"? Neither your Oceanside experience nor my "project" experience and the word of the LA police on gang formation down there in 2008 is conclusive on the subject--nor exclusive of each other's experience. We both could be right.
