This issue -- slavery, racism, etc., is one that made me come to understand how the media -- TV, Hollywood, and print, are used as propaganda. That is, to play on emotions rather than intellect. Because I'm very much a feeling, caring person, if I am not careful I could easily become a target of such propaganda if I allow the emotion to get ahead of my intellect. So, I avoid it. The most rude awakening happened after I read Howard Zinn's "A People's History." I knew, instinctively, that it was a big fatassed lie, from cover to cover, interspersed with enough fact to give the reader the idea there was truth to it. The problem, of course, is the lack of references. It was pulled from thin air. But it became a liberal cult icon of a book; it seems liberals believe in "science" but don't require references for their idols. Even today, many liberals believe Zinn's history is THE history. Which, of course, is absolutely false. So, where else does this propaganda come from? I start looking around and found it everywhere. CNN, liars. ABC, liars. NBC, CBS, NYT, LAT, WaPo, all liars. Or call them propagandists, whatever. But they are not sources of truth. And Hollywood may be the biggest of them all. So, no Hollywood movies for me. I may watch documentaries if I can determine what the truth is. But I prefer going to source. So, that's why I suggested Frederick Douglas' book. You're getting the facts. No one questions it. It is what it is. You should read it a couple of times. And then you will know what the facts are.
