"we will never change our "culture" That's what Bread wants to do, change the culture back to what it seemed to be in his youth. You've been missing his main message. He believes that providing unwed mothers with money to feed their children is why we have unwed mothers. He believes if we stopped doing that and let the children starve, unwed motherhood would drop or vanish. He wants unwed mothers to feel terribly ashamed, like they used to in the good old days.
