"Would you trade the 600K plus deaths attributed to the civil war (plus the economic ruin of the South and the rise of the KKK) for 15 years more of slavery? "

When I do alternate history, I do Turtledove or Harrison. Harrison gets pretty cool; we conquer England in about 5 days. Harrison gets cooler later, or earlier, when he writes about the ongoing and further adventures of The Stainless Steel Rat

However, if I was a slave, hell yes I would.

Ask a black man. But, I wouldn't. The South was wrong in a most fundamental way, and deserved correction. It's why we regard Lincoln as a great president. It's why he's on Mt. Rushmore.

The only thing I have trouble with is that the (D)'s were pro-slavery and the (R)'s were anti-slavery. We know the (D)'s evolved, but, do you ever ask yourself what happened to THAT Republican party? They seem to have devolved.

<<Would you trade the 600K plus deaths attributed to the civil war (plus the economic ruin of the South and the rise of the KKK) for 15 years more of slavery? Maybe you wouldn't,

but for me it's a reasonable proposition to entertain.>>

Which shows you need to completely revamp your thinking IMNSHO.

NO, no, no-are you kidding???
