<<You'all's experience caused me to think of MCOM as a way cool investment years ago. Needless to say I am less than enthusiastic about how it turned out....and I lay that at the feet of Bob Dilbert.>>

I assume you are aware that Metricom has other products than the Ricochet modems and service. I became aware of Metricom years ago because of their spread spectrum radios.

What they have done with Ricochet is attempted to take their experience from corporate users to the consumer market. I assume that their best times (in the consumer market) are still ahead of them.

I share your concerns about MCOM's upper management. In addition to the recent Boardwatch article (referenced elsewhere on this thread), I saw an interview with the CEO on CNBC a couple of months ago - he left me extremely unimpressed. I don't currently own the stock but would definately buy if there was word of a shake-up in upper management.

However, I _love_ the product and the freedom it give me when velcro-ed to the back of my notebook. I use it constantly every day. Recently I spent 4 days in an area of the country without coverage and really hated not having it.

However, what happens if everyone is on it all the time, ie. used like a radio?

In prior posts to this thread, David (from Ricochet) has stated that when the number of users becomes too much for a particular area, MCOM will install another lamptop radio nearby and the capacity will rise. For areas with existing service, the cost of installing another radio is minimal. Of course, I only have his word to go by, but he has been very helpful to this thread in the past and I have no reason to doubt him.

Question: with your current Ricochet, do you get unlimited usage?

Yes, you get unlimited usage.
