The only R movie that is approved is Schindler's List- and the history teachers show that. I, however, show an Emmet Till video- which is probably much worse than 12 years a slave. It is a documentary, and inevitably leaves the class in tears. I have a very strong unit on black literature that includes Phyllis Wheatley (And if you don't know about her- read the wiki- it's a fascinating story- and a sad one), Frederick Douglas and his orations, speeches by MLK and Malcolm X, and poetry from the Harlem Renaissance. en.wikipedia.org
