>> So is a person convicted of felony DUI.

Yes, but a felony DUI or sexual assault is a violent crime, not merely a crime of possession. In most states today there is some quantity of marijuana beyond which it is considered to be a felony. Some states say > 28g (1oz), while others put that figure much higher. But it makes no sense at all to destroy someone's future for possession of a damned harmless weed.

>> WTF were you doing that made you face felony marijuana charges (as opposed to misdemeanor charges)?

I was in possession of more than 1 oz of marijuana which was a felony in this state at that time.

"WTF were you doing that made you face felony marijuana charges (as opposed to misdemeanor charges)?"

Living in a dumbass, conservative southern state? Like say, Florida. If you possess more than 20 grams ( an ounce is 28 grams ) it's a FELONY. Or, how about this sweetie from OK "New penalties for possession or making of hashish, a grinder, or brownies may include life imprisonment were enacted in 2011. [38] [39]"
