The correct word is downgrade. In my experience, almost always when a company announces a so-called software upgrade it becomes less useful for the user because they are actually done for the benefit of the company producing them. Quicken is a particularly egregious example of this tendency.

This is one of the reasons I am no longer a programmer/analyst. I got sick of butting my head against the decision-makers when I stood up for the users.
