Are we sure that Mars has no molten core? Did it at one time? So it's just a big DEAD rock?

Without either high gravity (mars is 1/3 earth) or a magnetosphere any atmosphere would be blow off the planet. True, but in human terms it would blow off very slowly, many thousands to millions of years. If Mars was terraformed, in a sense the terraforming would never be done, it would just be turned down to keep up with atmosphere loss. Mars could be terraformed (at least with the technology and resources that are possible hundreds of years from now) OTOH without the magnetic field and probably with a somewhat thinner atmosphere even after terraforming (perhaps with no ozone layer or with a much thinner layer), radiation could still be something of a problem for inhabitants.
