Nothing is going to affect Microsoft stock as long as all the
mutual funds and big investment houses have faith that Microsoft
will meet their expectations every quarter. With 9 billion in cash
it won't be difficult for Microsoft to meet earnings with clever
accounting (I may be wrong here...someone wiser could clarify
whether it is possible to hold back earnings and funnel it later).

The one quarter when Microsoft fails to meet expectations is the one
when Nasdaq will have another Black Tuesday?? If Microsoft falls
every else is going to fall along with it (Remember Microsoft is
the most admired company in America). In my mind the only thing
that can shake people's belief in the Microsoft magic is when their
earnings decline. Even if they don't have the best technology it
probably won't matter.

SUN on the other hand doesn't really care so much about Microsoft.
It never competed against Microsoft but it's Microsoft that's
competing against Java. As long as SUN keeps churning out their
inventions they're going to do great and probably one day displace
Microsoft as the darling of the Wall Street & the people of America.

I don't think SUN can derail Microsoft but it could slow it down and
take it's place.

If you are wondering what any investor has to care about the
Microsoft case, it's that your portfolio is going to sink if
Microsoft sinks??
