Um, it is well known that gun violence is a lot lower in rural areas. So, yeah. You pull 2/3 of the cities out of the equation and the numbers drop. Duh. This is known as "cherry picking the data". The problem is, the vast majority of the population live in urban areas. In the 2010 census, we are talking 80.7% vs. 19.3%. Now in a rural environment a gun is useful for other things than killing other people. Hunting areas are more available, wild animals can be a problem and there always is the jerk ward who feels that just because you didn't lock everything up he can help himself to some of it. Given the amount of poverty in rural areas, the latter is sadly common. But guns in even rural areas are more of a like to have than an actual need. Even then, things like handguns and semi-automatic rifles aren't necessarily needed to address those issues. However, indulging those desires puts the overwhelming majority of Americans at risk. Why is that?
