They are members of NATO. By treaty, attacking one member is treated as an attack on all members.


Good point. One of the reasons the Ukraine is not a part of NATO is because Russia objected.

NATO vs. Russia would be even more lop-sided than Russia vs. the Ukraine. Moldovia and Georgia were things the EU and the US could ignore. The Crimea has triggered a diplomatic crisis. Poland or the Baltics would trigger a war.

I would hope that would be true if Russia tries to annex the Ukraine.
