Hello Li, I feel that this ruling was in MSFT's favour more than the DOJ. Hence, MSFT 1, DOJ 0.

MSFT has to put a solid case together showing that IE is an integral part of Windows 98...I think MSFT will win in this case. After all, the next front end interface has to handle both the desktop as well as the internet so Win 95 IE is the soution. Why even have two seperate products. NSCP could very well integrate a desktop interface into NetScape if they liked and nobody is there to stop them.

The DOJ is going to go behind the scenes and negotiate a settlement with MSFT....perhaps for $100 million which they will hand over to Clinton to pare down the U.S deficit. No point in suing for $800 million plus and having it wind up in courts for the next twenty years with one appeal after another.

MSFT has enough time to come up with its reasoning. A survey among IT pros is all MSFt needs to back them up.

Regarding the decision made be the judge, it was fair BUT MSFT lost very little. They have already captured 75% of the workstations using Windows 95. The rest can simlpy download it rom the MSFT web site or have it mailed to them.

As a Travellers/Salomon analyst put it this morning on CNBC, they are hoping for a drop in the stock so that he could pick it up a few bucks cheaper. Everybody including their mother wants a part of the multi-billion dollar empire.

Stock down very little on the news. Perhaps a low to $132 before a rebound to the $145 level. I think MSFt will trade in a narrow range until the vertict is final in May.

Happy trading.
