Reading between the lines, those friends are "right of return" type friends, like so many hyphenated Americans who claim to be Irish or Greek or something because they had a grandfather from there. They are probably not currently voters in Crimea: <I have 4 friends from Crimea, form Kerch, Simferopol and also Sevastopol who has family in Lughansk >

It would be silly of Crimeans to ask all around the world who ever had anything to do with Crimea to vote. Heck, I believe one of my great great grandfathers was there. Where's my ballot paper?

Russia has a similar claim to Crimea as USA does to Texas and Hawaii, which were annexed.
