That was a really bad decision on Bush's part. He did it because it had worked in Texas -- he had found that he could work with the likes of Bob Bullock, who, although a Democrat, was a highly competent administrator and knew what it took to run government well.

Bush should have known that Kennedy would use him to get what he wanted, then turn on him with a vengeance. I do blame Bush for not recognizing the Democrats as scoundrels. They never believed he was legitimately elected and they were not about to work with him.

I continue to believe that Bush was one of America's better presidents.
