I answer this once. SI wasn't available and so I went to shrink the browser to do something else and poof, that nice long explanation was toasted when I hit the x instead......

In short, they are trucks with these pads underneath that lower to the ground. They then create a mini-earthquake. What happens is you layout a straight line of sensors and then line these trucks up to vibrate the ground. Use to be done with dynamite. This way is quicker and safer. Less disruptive of the ground.

I think that they are in a two approach mode with this siesmic aquistion. Visualize a grid of vertical and horizontal lines, similar to lat./long on a map. That is the Russian data. Now half that grid pattern, or draw + in a box, they will narrow the grid to get a better idea about the structure and formation. It won't necessarily tell you probable, and it damn sure won't tell you proved or recoverable; drilling does that. Siesmic helps define the formation of potential and probable. It's still
educated postulation. It can't tell you the porosity or permeability of the formation, only the approx. depth and thickness to a certain degree.

They may also map area's that don't have any siesmic done on it, for future consideration, but probably limited. They have identify a couple of good area's already, so that will be the main focus. There is some other things that they do to maximize their focus before doing siesmic.

Sorry about the original, but I've had a long day and it's late. Got to go again early tomorrow.
