Responding to your phrase "thinking people that finally fixed that problem, not any churches". Not really sure where you were going with that, but as a non-believing person, I'm open to other points of view as long as they aren't rammed down my throat. Churches were central to the civil rights movement - not just black churches but other churches. That is undeniable. Okay - they were thinking church people back in 1688 and we probably would have shared little in terms of metaphysical POVs. Generally it seems that Quakers got that right on the personal actions and responsibility side of things.
