Because, you know, they just hired the workers because they were cheap. They didn't really need them and they don't do much...

Minimum wage workers tend not to be fungible. Their labor cannot be outsourced to China and the state of robotics is such that the jobs can't be automated significantly more than they can be now. Even for the jobs that can be automated, the upfront costs can be a challenge.

So there only real recourse is to raise prices. Depending on how much, that may or may not have much of an impact.
