In my household and my kids we intersperse play and school. When the grandparents visit (5 of us) the kids like to sit down with them and read or do problems in the work books. They are 4 and 7 (just). When the kids get tired of reading or working math problems they just go off to play.

But after they get tired of play they will ask to work in the work books or read. It is fun for them and we all work to keep it that way.

But the education and thinking is always on everyone's mind non stop, but the kids are never pressured.

When clan members get together at dinner there is always a lively discussion about ideas. We are all big readers and the books rotate through households.

I don't think a lot of people live like that? My kids and friends tell me that.

Also, the older kids are always invited into the conversation and by about 14 can hold their own with most adults. So no victims.

We also all live modestly and below our means. A book, a fun day at the farmers market, lots of laughing and lively discussions are our pleasures. And we all seem to agree on that.
