Student Suspended for Preventing Self-Mutilation

Every time I read a story about public school zero tolerance policies, I think, “That’s it: the final extreme of insanity. No one could ever top this one.” Then once again moonbat educrats prove me wrong:

Last Thursday at Bayside Middle School [in Virginia Beach, Virginia], sixth grader Adrionna Harris came to the aid of a classmate who was cutting his arm. She faces expulsion for taking a razor from the student, throwing it away and convincing him what he was doing wasn’t right. She thought she was doing the right thing, so on Friday she told the school administration what happened. The way school officials responded led to this question: was the school’s zero tolerance policy taken too far?

Here’s what this has to do with zero tolerance lunacy: by taking away the razor before the troubled kid could cut himself, Adrionna put herself in possession of a weapon, even though she threw it away immediately.

Punishment was swift and severe:

Instead of getting praise from the school administration, Adrionna got a 10 day suspension with recommendation for expulsion. The interesting thing — the only reason Adrionna got suspended was because she admitted what happened. The alleged weapon was thrown away, and it was her word alone that led to her suspension.

The lessons learned at school this day: 1) never take initiative, because the nail that stands up gets hammered down; 2) do not expect authorities to behave rationally, since if they were not lunatics, our present political climate would not allow them to be in charge; 3) in a society run by liars, do not tell the truth; and 4) where a collectivist mentality prevails, you have to focus on No. 1, because attempts to help others challenge the indispensability of authorities and therefore may be punished.

It doesn’t seem Adrionna is a very apt pupil:

We asked Adrionna, if she would do the same thing again, knowing she would get suspended for holding the blade.

“Even if I got in trouble, it didn’t matter because I was helping him … I would do it again even if I got suspended, yes,” she said.

Not even contrite. Double her suspension!

Educrats meet to discuss zero tolerance policies.
