Linux Mint. It seems well suited to small portables, with easy to set and use encryption for data safety in case of theft.

The first page already mentions setting up windows inside Mint if needed using virtual box, and I have played with running windows on VM ware running inside of Ubuntu, but there really is no hurry for me.

Mint already does more or less everything I need on a net book. No need to sweat at all.

No way am I going to chuck out my handy little netbook and waste time and good money on MS windows 8x
