Could be the fan or the speaker. Could also mean a failing component. Is there a consistent pattern to the beeping sound. Try to identify. Also go into system devices in control panel to determine if there are any problem devices. Try to isolate it by first turning the volume to mute and see if it continues.

Elroy, can you turn 'notification sounds' OFF? In Win 8 you can. At least the noise would be gone

maybe leave the system devices window open and when you hear the noise, run over and see if any new devices showed up?
