Is your monitor on or off when this happens, or does this happen when it goes into sleep mode. Check your system event viewer log to see if anything shows up. Have you recently changed or added any new hardware. What, when did you last connect to the usb. Check for driver updates. Have you tried a system restore.

Event Viewer is a tool that displays detailed information about significant events on your computer.
Can be helpful when troubleshooting problems and errors with Windows and other programs.
