I agree with the echo chamber; but I am very sure what you are really looking at, at the base, the integral variable, is simply a lack of information. They don't read or discuss ideas seriously. Absent adequate information they must fill in the blank spaces ala Gestalt. So that is where the echo chambers come in. They are the filler. Larry McMurty does a fine job of laying out the 1850's mind set. Concentrate on the level of primitive thinking and you have it i.e. where the filler goes.
