This Nomai thing has me thinking. I know some friends who have a Zip drive, and I could save them some money by recommending they buy the new lower-priced Nomai discs instead of the overpriced, low tech crapola Iomega branded ones. From what I have gathered, the Iomega Zip sells for about $15 to $20, correct? Isn't Nomai's Zip supposed to sell for about $8 or so? This is a substantial savings that a lot of people cannot ignore. If the Nomai discs can survive the Iomega Zip drive's natural propensity to start clicking violently and burn out in a short time, then the awareness level of the Nomai disc will be settled fairly in the marketplace. Let's face it. Iomega was caught off guard and proven totally lax in their patent applications. There is a good chance that Iomega will indeed lose this lawsuit, and the floodgates that have been breached by Nomai will open up fully with the likes of Imation, Sony, Ampex, Maxell, TDK, and Gary Wisdom's mother coming out with Zip disc knockoffs. Zip's reign and profits vanish with Nomai raining on the disc parade. Sony weighing in with their own HiFi drive. SyQuest SparQ is busy nailing the coffin shut on Jaz. Clique is vaporware. Besides, Flash cards are better, faster, more dependable, sturdier, use much less power, and already prevelant in many devices. Ditto is nearly dead. The rapidly declining stock price is just beginning to reflect the not so rosy future that Iomega faces as it's glory days wane.
