No, moonshine is very clear, it may have some color but in the reality show one batch that had color (blue) was the result of copper contamination. The shiners can make shine from all sorts of grains and fruits...they made a batch from strawberries but weren't too pleased with it...corn is the grain of choice. They have no trouble selling all they can make and prices are in the range of 130-150 bucks a gallon. They're very careful who they sell to and move their stills around to keep them secret... During the season, they say they make about 2000/week... Alcohol content seems to vary from 130 to 190 proof but 190 is not common. They have the skill to guess the proof simply by shaking and looking at the bubbles....

The flame throwers you mention can be done with shine (or ethanol) but the flame would be colorless.....when someone does that in a circus or other show they use gasoline or something similar to get a yellow flame...

I've seen quite a bit of moonshine over the years and it has always been crystal clear. I don't know if that is typical or just what I've come in contact with.
