OB, re Even with the <gggg> aside, I took your post to be an attack on my credibility and would appreciate it if you dropped the attempts to stifle discussion on the thread.

You can't be serious! Steve has never ever tried to stifle discussion on this thread. I don't know why you are trying to make a mountain out of nothing, but if you can't take a contrary opinion, (which is what you acuse steve of) then why post your opinions?

Steve saying "I've never read so much bunk in a post before <gggg>", was simply a good natured way of saying "I disagree with you". Why didn't you ask steve what he disagreed with?

Regarding your 9 serious questions, have you attempted to come up with answers to any of the questions yourself? Many of your questions can be answered simply by continuous reading of this thread. Particularly, steve has provided more fundamental info on CPQ and specifics on how they operate than any other five contributors put together - and never once has steve complained that people asked too many questions. In fact, he will probably answer all 9 of your questions in full detail.

I could, after some research, answer for my own satisfaction all of your questions, and they are very good questions. But it's simply not possible to exactly find answers to everything, because some things aren't known. The CFO of CPQ recently said, "Europe is going bangbusters". Nobody can put a % on "gangbusters" until the accounting is done, and the quarter is reported.

Re the current price declines in CPQ, it's fairly obvious to me that CPQ stock price got ahead of Compaq's prospects, quite quickly. The prices attained in prior months would factor in this year's estimated growth. So the stock becomes a rolling stock, just marking time. Next, institutional selling to lock in spectacular gains begins to take it's toll on the price. You can't have unrelenting selling without price declines.Yesterday and today's action was entirely based on Asian fears, like you said. So I agreed with your post. Steve wanted to post a contrary opinion, and I have no idea what he disagreed with.

DK

OB: From reading your post I have a feeling that you already know the answers of the questions you asked, or at least you seem to have a definite opinion in these matters you brought up. I for one, would be interested in hearing your answeres.

Obewon - I think Steve mentioned yesterday that he was heading to Cancun (four day holiday), so he may not respond for some time. Wonder if he made himself scarce just before the stock price really tanks????
