Like I suggested at the start, If you are going to make a legal argument you should use legal terms. The legal terms for what we did was Invasion by a military action authorized by congress. If you want to argue that the invasion was illegal, you can make a case. If you want to argue that the authorization for military action by congress was illegal, you can make a case. If you want to argue that the military went beyond or violated the terms authorised, you can make a case. If you want to charge someone with assault who was protecting an innocent person from an attack, you would probably lose.
