Hello Lawrence, > Hi Scott: Son of Sun? > > How about a comparison between between Sun Microsystem's new > caching product and Novell's fast cache. I'm sure many people would > find this comparison much more interesting. I have looked at length and can not find any public, published figures on Sun's product. I would bet that they are also seeing the limits in performance, much like the other vendors, from trying to run a high-performance content routing product on a general purpose operating system. In one meeting last week, a very knowledgable, former Sun employee, stated that Sun could easily meet or exceed the figures that we are seeing. But upon further examination, the machine and software to do this added up to almost $1M dollars! I would suggest looking at mindcraft.com and reviewing the information they have published. I believe that if Sun could provide the high-performance that we are seeing at Novell with BorderManager, they would have built this into their Web servers. The last add that Sun ran "bragging" about performance indicated just under 35,000 hits per minute ... this is under 600 per second! > By the way, I'm a long time lurker and have appreciated your well > informed posts. I appreciate this comment. I know that most of the time my posts do not directly relate to stock price evaluation, or stock technical analysis ... but I hope that sometimes I can offer some perspective on how technologies are evolving and which industries are likely to grow. I think that there are some indirect ways in which new growth industries are going to "take off" and I am continuously looking for leaders in the areas that I think will be growing. If I find some Sun figures, I'll post them! Scott C. Lemon Thanks, Larry
