I don't see anything odd about identifying with liberal principles, conservative principles, or some mix thereof. I am concerned when I see people completely subordinate themselves to the authority of a political party, especially when principle is abandoned altogether. When you cease to live for yourself, according to principles you believe are just and sound, you have sacrificed authority in your own life only to serve as an object of external power.
