The problem is we don't know that .... people assume it because it fits with what they want to believe:

before there was DNA the RNA just carried it's own instructions. Since it was more error prone it was limited to shorter sequences. There are more than one molecule that falls under the heading of RNA.

cytoplasm doesn't make proteins.
Cytoplasm is an environment, it happens to be the environment where proteins are made in current life.


That's like saying the earth makes animals because the earth is the environment where we live. Or the sea makes fish.

RNA doesn't code, it is coded
rRNA codes.

To code is to produce code. Beings with minds do that. rRNA is part of the ribosome structure ... maybe you should say it reads code.

This isn't nitpicking ... it's being accurate.
