It happens naturally all the time - well water often smells like rotten eggs. The EPA has been called in those supposed cases and they concluded any gas was natural. If there was any truth - the current administration would be all over the gas companies.

Fresh water is a natural resource that EVERYBODY needs...

The fracked deposits are much deeper than the ground water supply. But (usually) less concentrated natural sources of methane in or near bodies of water or underground water sources are not rare.
