My reading of the Reps right now is that no argument wins, only that the civil war between the tea party types and the establishment just got ratcheted up another notch. They are less likely to agree to support the final candidate if he/she is not from their faction.

The tea party types are increasingly convinced they lost in 08 and 12 because their candidates were not conservative enough and the establishment types subscribe, increasingly strongly, to your argument.

Best evidence for the latter is just how vigorously they, the establishment, are running candidates against tea party types. Cochran in Mississippi is perhaps the best example. But the intensity of the Kentucky senatorial primary is a close second.

"We have had two cases of RINO + Nutcase as the ticket, and it didn't work."

Perhaps they should try Nutcase + RINO this time?
