I think you're right to doubt the multiverse and also right to know it's all about an attempt to eliminate God. Materialist science is driven by religion and not a pure search for truth.

And that is the point. It is only by great thinkers going outside the comfort zone of existing paradigms that any "improved" understanding can occur. Once we stop at what we understand we have reached the end of a road. Or at least we have walked as far as we are comfortable walking and are probably ready to retire...
