He should have.

Also an armed guard at Columbine exchanged fire with the two killers at the school house door....

Better than nothing - but at least he tried.

SWAT teams didn't enter the school until 45 minutes after the shooting stopped.

Dumb policy - since changed - but regardless if someone else inside was armed they could have tried to stop that nightmare.
