IF I were you living in California, I would worry more about getting a good Geiger counter/dosimeter to monitor the levels of radiation in the air, food and water (thanks to Fukushima!!!). Because of the ever increasing levels of Cesium-137 around them, many residents have left California for good. I understand a reasonably good Geiger counter ( a SOEK model ) costs about $200. Remember that dearer is not necessarily better.
