Alan -

Regarding your observations about Iomega marketing.

1, I think the Zip Plus packaging is distinctively different from that for Zip. The box is predominantly blue instead of red, and the text on the box stresses the extra features in the product, including the software bundle, the AutoDetect feature, etc.

2, It is true that SyQuest's advertising looks and sounds good. However, Iomega does more advertising, including television. I have seen the Zip TV commercial several times, during Seinfeld, NYPD Blue, etc. So I am not worried that Iomega is losing out on that score. The fact that SyQuest's ads look good doesn't mean that Iomega's don't.

3, To an extent I agree with you about the refurbished product. We have never seen any before about last month, and suddenly it seems to be all over the place. I would have been happier with more limited distribution of refurbished product.

4, I'm not a marketing expert, and haven't done any market research myself. Iomega does do this, and I am inclined to just trust them in this regard. Not that they're infallible, but they've done pretty well so far.
