The two coal sub-sectors moved in polar opposite directions during 1Q with
domestic thermal coal improving as a harsh winter drove up electricity demand
and natural gas prices while whittling down coal stockpiles. On the other hand,
excess met coal supply continues to weigh on pricing with Australian HCC
dropping down to a low of $105/tonne before recovering.
