You are right C2. As an engineer/scientist, I'm interested in fundamental principles and causal relationships. The 2008 crash was slower so can arbitrarily be declared to be different. But it was overnight to the extent that a panic weekend on a Sunday was when it happened and the government held panicked meetings to avoid the abyss on Monday. That was a flash albeit over hours rather than minutes.

If people want to understand financial relativity theory, they need to understand the principles that cause things to happen.

How many minutes or seconds do you think should be allowed before a Flash Crash becomes some other sort of crash. Slowmo Crash?

Ooops, I see I was getting confused by decades which are slipping by quickly these days: <
You might not think of the 1998 one as a flash crash, but the financial relativity theory mechanisms are the same as the quick little ones. In the 1998 flash crash,
> Those 1998s should read 2008. Freudian slip. 1998 was another flash crash, namely a very flashy crash, unobserved in a Siberia forest, when the Globalstar Zenit rocket with 12 satellites crashed during the launch.

That fiery flashy crash took Long Term Capital Management with it and the Asian Contagion was on. There was quite a crunch in 1998. Alan Greenspan stood ready with umpty$billion and sloshed it out there.

"When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less."

flash = 2 years and oil = gold

Perfectly sensible to Mr. Dumpty.
