The waste in the military is also insane. But I don't believe it approaches the levels of Medicare.

The waste within Medicare could be easily controlled if they just used appropriate controls. But once a provider is enrolled they're pretty much going to pay claims that are properly coded. There are certain specialties that are problematic, but routine general practice claims simply aren't a problem.

One of the basic protections against fraud that is used by all insurers is to send patients a copy of every EOB they process; if a patient knows they didn't see a particular doctor, they'll often call and put the payer on notice. If you try to call Medicare and say, "Hey, I got an EOB from a doctor I didn't see on a date I when I was in Kuwait" they'll just blow you off. United would be ALL OVER a claim like that. So, when some idiot takes the government's figures at face value, they're vastly understating fraud.

Now, a douche like CJ may come here and argue with me about it, and present some bullshit link, I've dealt with these systems daily for 20 years. I can guarantee you that Medicare has no idea how much money they're losing to fraud.

Military waste occurs in a big way. But one can just look at military logistics and see they have their shit together.
