Even Barack Obama and Bernie Sanders don't oppose freedom. And I'm pretty sure if they did, and said it outloud, their careers would be over in this country. American democracy was based on freedom. Democracy isn't worth a shit if if you don't have freedom. If you want to comprehend why the United States was a special place as a result of its freedom I would recommend you check out Tocqueville's Democracy in America. I would argue it is more about freedom than Democracy. (I noticed you didn't list Tocqueville, or even Bob Dylan, in your genius list).

And this government you hate so much is what provides you with clean water, safe food, sewers, and protects you from bad guys and comes to your aid if you are hurt or your house is on fire. If you believe the government is going to protect you when you need them from bad guys you are living in a fantasy world.

Until we had democracy 200 years ago, everyone ran around killing everyone else. Last time I looked people were still doing this.
