That is very touching, and a perfect response to a shameful way to 'cut the budget.'

Tears came to my eyes as I watched the fly-over. It seemed like a personal loss to me.

I was sort of proud that the lead plane was a B-25. That's the plane that my Dad flew in as navigator-bombardier. He went to that after the Marine Corps abandoned their glider program. Since he didn't have a high school diploma he could not become a pilot. Which is a mystery to me, because navigating takes just as much or more brain-power as piloting.

The Marines called the Mitchell bomber a PBJ.

Dad was one week and a hundred solo miles away from obtaining his pilot's license when he died in 1995. He had longed to fly for most of his life, and finally made it.
