...and an Action Tec internal 56K data/fax modem priced at $79."

A friend of mine just bought a Motorola 56K voice/fax modem for $79. I paid $219 for a USR 56K voice/fax modem the first of June 97.

3Com's modem margins are probably non-existent right now, maybe even losing money. To ignore severe price deflation due to oversupply in the market-place is dangerous. See DD makers. Even the one most insulated from the 1.2GB/3.0GB products (where price cutting was most pronounced), QNTM, just announced that they will miss expectations by over 50%.
