Good Evening Margaret: OTOTOTOT

Another bad day in the market. I hope you are keeping you spirits up.

<<one of my daughters has had a terrible time with them for the past 11 years. Doctors have not been able to help her very much. If you have any information on them, I would really like to hear about it.>>
I am sorry to hear about what appears to be Chronic Urticaria of unknown etiology in your daughter.
It is a very annoying condition to develop hives out of nowhere and for no apparent reason.Once in a while I take ZYRTEC at bed time when I feel the sensation. Here is something you may be interested.

Hives or urticaria : Urticaria is a very common problem About 1/5th of the population had hives at some time during their life. The lesion is raised and itchy. Foods are the common known causes. Eg: Fish, shellfish, food additives: Tartrazine, azo dyes, benzoates. Drugs: Penicillin, Aspirin ,sulfa, Codeine. Plants, animals, insects, inhalants, viruses, physical factors like cold, pressure, solar, unknown causes.

If no identifiable cause is found, most of them fall into the category of Chronic hives. Mostly, a good history should be able to identify the offending agent. Allergy testing is of no use in most of the cases. Hepatitis , mono can give hives.
Among physical factors, cold is the common cause. Known as cold urticaria.

In an emergency, epinephrine injection helps control severe hives as in severe food or insect sting/bite allergy. People with severe allergies as in insect bites, should carry Ana Kit for emergency epinephrine injection. Antihistamines, including non-sedating antihistamines can be taken in non-emergency situation. Dietary manipulation may not of any help in chronic urticaria .
To all:
This is not a medical advice, but only for informational use only.

I hope that INTEL starts doing better in the coming weeks. I heard somebody say that with Merced, there will be a turnaround.

Have a nice weekend.

Paul

Search "mastocytosis" on excite or yahoo. There's a chat group and lots of info on it, including urticaria which is a symptom. Look for mastocytosis FAQ page too.
