My only beef with Bush Sr. is the Iran-Contra thing that he was more than likely behind in the Reagan admin., then as president he PARDONED all the (R) perps that were convicted.

This set the pattern of Republican presidents having henchmen do the illegal dirty work, only to be pardoned later. It's a terrible precedent that needs to be ended. Pardon power should not extend to anyone that served in a former administration of a president, or former president.

I think Bush senior started out with plenty of empathy. He inherited noblese oblige from his father who was a senator from CT in the mold of moderate NE Reps. He sold his soul to Reagan, thinking h would be able to govern as a moderate when he inherited the presidency. But he underestimated the passion and power of the neanderthal Dems the Reps invited from the deep south, and they tossed him out because he wasn't reactionary enough.
