Gosh Haim, so sorry to hear about what happened to your parents. Those were tough times, and over the I have heard sad stories from friends such as: 1) A high school friend whose American uncle endured starvation in a German POW camp; 2) A Dutch woman whose father hid in the marshes for years to avoid forced labor; 3) A Latvian woman I met in a food co-op: "The Russians took everything from us!"; 4) A friend with a Polish father whose spirit was crushed by years of forced labor; and 5) Jewish friends who lost relatives in the Holocaust.
