Nobody kicked him off because of tortoises or anything else

They supposedly told him to cull his cattle herd down to an uneconomic fraction of its existing numbers, whether the rationale was to "save the turtles" or whatever, and he then said "screw that" and stopped his payments to the BLM..

Then something certainly doesn't add up....Bundy has somewhere between 450 and 1,000 cow calf pairs..at 1.35 per head per year is a maximum of 1,350.00 per yr times 20 years is 27,000.00 or so...yet BLM claims the back fees are over 1,000,000 dollars....

there were 40-50 other ranchers in that area and the BLM put them out of business by reducing the herd size to a number that made it economically unfeasible to continue...

Armed US Federal Agents and hired cowboys began rounding up the cattle, sometimes using helicopters, in order to seize Bundy’s 1,000 head of cattle, putting them into a holding area in order to auction them to pay alleged back fees they claim Bundy owes the Federal Government. Those fees are reported to be over $1,000,000.

i will wager that if you dig deep enough you will find a pattern of the BLM changing the rules, fees, and services in order to run off the ranchers...then get the water rights, and use the land as a set aside for the developement of other BLM lands for political cronies..

This isn't Harry Reid's first rodeo, and he didn't get his aide/water boy (who is 35 years old ) appointed to head the BLM because of the guy's vast experience....think about that a bit please...regards,p1976

Assuming it is as straight-forward as the BLM executing a court order because a guy didn't pay $27k+ in grazing fees, I find it odd that this battle is being fought on one of the few big coveted pieces of land not controlled by corporate or political interests. This fuels the conspiracy theories.

Nevertheless, an armed confrontation with the land owner is a dumb remedy, especially if and arrest warrant or the seizure of bank accounts has not been ordered first.
