However, as the tremendous scale of resources being unlocked by advances in drilling and completion technology is being met by a distribution and demand infrastructure build out of corresponding scale? I think we're making an order of magnitude leap in the availability of fossil fuels. The hydraulic frac has been around since, at least, the 1950s in multiple petroleum provinces across the nation. But, continuing advances in horizontal drilling tech are unlocking reserves that, even 5 yrs ago, were not recoverable at $4 NG. And there's something else afoot. Something even bigger. From my industry experience? The most important remaining technical challenge to solve with horizontal drilling is depth. 30-40 yrs ago, the challenge was drilling deep wells. Today, it's just the opposite. It's easy to gradually swing the MWD drill string from vertical to horizontal when you have 5 to 10,000' in which to execute the arc. Making that 45 degree curve happen with 2,500' - or less - to work with is much more difficult. That's why I put up this post... Message 29485134 Was curious to see what kind of replies I'd get from geologists, engineers and drillers who might be reading the thread at that time. Anyway, getting at those shallow reserves horizontally is absolutely huge. There are billions and billions of bbls. that can be added to our recoverable reserves in thousands of shallow oil and gas fields, not just in America, but across the globe. My wag? Like to see coiled drill pipe and production casing developed and made widely available, for field operations, along with a more flexible MWD drilling assembly. Cheers, Isopatch
