Indeed.

Some fare dodgers never did get caught (their whole student lives shhh) , and unfortunately advised others who dodged the fare only once and got caught and were too honest in their guilt. They were prosecuted to the full extent of the law, just for a few pounds, so the case that it was an economic decision is not evenly applied.

So I don't understand how that guy managed to settle out of court. Normally he would have got a criminal record and thus made unemployable in any profession that involved money.

Maybe he was a member of some secret society or something?

It really is an appalling situation..
