I know you will not believe this, but recent research just came out from Stanford and Colombia? (can't remember) and it was verified using brain scans.

I'll see if I can find the research, but will that make any difference to a conservative? It has been my experience conservatives don't much believe in science?

Here is what they found. They compared rich kids to poor kids. What they found was that by the time a rich kid was two years old the poor kid was operating at 18 months. They tracked the difference down to amount of sophisticated conversation in the household.

They also advised parents to not use baby talk, but to use normal language.

By the time the rich kid was 5 the poor kid was only operating intellectually at 3 years. Like I said they verified this with brain scans. Pre school would greatly help close this gap.

They said in the rich kids environment they hear more than a million more words than poor kids. They also said, which I believe is true, that the two year lag is just too much to overcome.

The idea that education at an early age is not advantageous is just plain silly. Kids can learn just fine at an early age and that is when the mind is developing its neural structure and we have known for ever lack of stimulus during this time can make any animal less intelligent.

E.g. if you take a new born and put it in a family where they speak 5 different languages, we all know by the time the kid is 6 or 7 they will be speaking all 5 languages fluently. We also know bilingual people do better intellectually than those who only speak one language. The mind is forced to go back and forth.

The right wing has never been interested in pre school because they fear what the children are taught will conflict with what the parents teach the kids and teaching during the early years sort of sets the mind, like imprinting.

Nixon vetoed pre school for just this reason in the 70's. It is the same thing when the Republican's in Texas last year, or 2012? had a platform against " HIGHER ORDER THINKING".

Imagine that!!!??? They don't want their kids engaged in higher order thinking. Amazing.

And it was for the same reason. Science says evolution is real and many religious people do not want that taught to their kids!
